Do Memory Foam Mattresses Smell? -
For all its many advantages from which you will benefit from for years to come, memory foam isn't perfect. One of its disadvantages is if good quality when new it does give off a distinctly unpleasant chemical smell this obviously offends some people more than others.
Why Does It Smell So Bad?
A foam by nature is full of little ‘air pockets’ it is the foam in the memory foam. These air pockets are full of the ‘air’ that is present when the foam is made (in bread it happens to be a lovely smell in memory foam less pleasant -
Cheap so called memory foam mattress tend to use very small amounts of Memory foam sometimes only a couple of centimetres or an inch deep. These clearly have a very much reduced ‘storage’ of the unpleasant smell in a very much reduced volume of Memory Foam.
Our Mattress are special,
We use a very good grade of memory foam at a depth that makes a real difference to your sleep and comfort. In addition to that we cut ‘Breather channels throughout the Memory foam and then top it with DRY-
In addition all our mattress are especially made for you from fresh sealed hygienically kept foam and shipped directly to you in well seal packaging immediately they are completed. This is very different to mass produced commercial mattress whose foam has been lying around the factory, though several production processes, though various distribution channels and left in warehouses and warm show rooms for many weeks if not months before they are purchased.
When Will It Go?
After you have slept on it for a number of times. Unfortunately just leaving the mattress doesn't air it much as there is little or no movement of air through it unless you are lying on it and warming it up -
Few people are able to sleep with their new memory foam product immediately they take it out of the packing. Personally I leave mine airing for about two days and even then I could still smell days more. This seems to be about average for most people. However there are some who find they need to leave the foam to air for a couple of weeks before the bad smell fades enough for them to sleep with it.
You can help it by
1) Keeping bedding off the mattress during its ‘off gassing’ period to help it breathe and not trap the air in and
2) Generally warming the mattress up (to soften the memory foam top) and roll around on it -
3) A lot of people however have found that the best bet is to get the mattress warm and hover the mattress to suck the air though it. 10 -
Once the mattress has been used the odour will diminish and soon become unnoticeable. You will then be left with one of the best nights sleep you will ever have for years to come.
